Ann Louise Schaub, 83 of Traverse City passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020.

Ann was born on November 5, 1937 in Traverse City, the daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Courtad) Olson.

She graduated from St. Francis High School and then attended Aquinas College. In high school, Ann was honored as one of the first twenty-five in the country to be named future young novelist. While she never pursued writing professionally, this hidden talent brought great joy to her children when an old stack of papers was discovered with a jingle she wrote about a common baking product and a letter she wrote to a radio station describing her failed attempts to win a set of coffee mugs. While she never won the mugs, they enjoyed her letter so much they sent her a complimentary set.

Ann was devoted to her husband Richard, celebrating 62 years of marriage before he passed away in 2019. She always put her family first. She was extremely talented at sewing, whether it was children’s costumes, daughters’ wedding dresses, alterations, drapes or upholstery many benefited from her skills. Her hobbies included puzzles, taking walks and enjoying nature. Ann’s love for reading was something she instilled in her children and grandchildren. Ann enjoyed traveling with Richard, together they visited almost every state.

Ann is survived by her eight children, Duane Schaub, Howard (Ann-Marie) Schaub, Ken (Heidi) Schaub, Laurie Schaub-D’Aquila, Rebecca (Joseph) Fohey, Mary Maison, Ann Garrett and Jennifer (Mark Donkers) Schaub-Donkers; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Joseph Schaub; daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Duane) Schaub; and three brothers, James Olson, Frank Olson and Donald Olson.

Ann’s family would like to thank the exceptional staff at Traverse Manor for the loving care she received.

A funeral Mass will be announced in the future.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Michigan Chapter, 921 W Eleventh St #1W, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
