Carl Andrew “Los” VanSickle. Born November 15, 1963 in North Tonawanda, NY. Passed March 19, 2018 in Traverse City, MI after a heroic battle with cancer.

Carl had recently moved back to Michigan to be with family after living over 32 years in the greater Seattle, WA area. His career in the graphic arts and print business spanned thirty years. Carl was a 1981 graduate of Traverse City Senior High School, and attended Northwestern Michigan College, Michigan Technological University and Bellevue College in Washington.

Carl loved adventure in the outdoors, he loved the mountains, the streams, the trails, campfires, and telling you a story with a twinkle in his eye. His laugh was contagious and his smile was always genuine. He was an avid fisherman, sailor, and pheasant hunter with his beloved dogs. Most weekends, when not hiking a trail, or building a trail bike, you could find him in the backyard hanging out in his “shack”, relaxing in the sauna he built himself, or treasure hunting. Carl loved life, he made the utmost of it, charming and loving everyone around him as he went. He will be terribly missed by countless lifelong friends whom he treated to smoked salmon, brisket, baseball and hockey games, campfires and endless stories.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Dennis VanSickle, his grandparents Don and Martha Goodsell, his grandparents Pauline and Gerald VanSickle, his Uncle Dale VanSickle, and his nephew Joseph Brady.

He will live on in the hearts of his family, mother Lynda Mayo, his sisters Melissa (Mark) Kuepfer, Kristin Brady, Cari Mayo, Amy and Jennifer VanSickle, beloved son of his heart Phillip (Hisaka) Dyment, treasured nephews Theodore, Connor, Luke and Dempsey and niece Madelynn, as well as his Aunts Thelma (Gerald) Church, Donna Kelly, additional aunts and cousins.

A memorial celebration will be held April 8th at 2:00 at the Bluewater Hall, 13424 S. West Bay Shore Dr., Traverse City, MI 49686. Memorial contributions can be sent to: Homeless Youth Project c/o NMCAA, 3963 Three Mile Road, Traverse City, MI 49686.
