Life Story / Obituary
Dorothy Anne (London) Wagonlander
Age 92
November 11, 1932 - January 9, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, Dorothy Wagonlander of Traverse City, Michigan, formerly of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Dorothy passed away peacefully, of natural causes at Munson Medical Center with her son Kirk, by her side.
Dorothy was born in Columbus, Ohio to Dr. and Mrs. (Ova Lee Payne) HH London. After being raised in Columbia, Missouri, Dorothy graduated from the University of Missouri (Columbia) in 1954.
After graduation, she and a classmate took a European Cruise to see the sights before commercial airliners flew routes overseas. That trip inspired her love of travel, and she took many wonderful trips throughout her lifetime. Dorothy spent a few summers in Boulder, Colorado, attending graduate classes.
Dorothy bravely decided to relocate to Michigan to teach English Literature. It is here that she met her husband, Edward, the science teacher next door, on the first day of class (classes).
She taught for many years at Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan retiring at age 54.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 1968, her brother Dr. W.T. London, and sister-in-law Lorraine of Bethesda, Maryland. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine, her son, Kirk, her brother, Howard, her sister-in-law, Martha, of Scottsdale, Arizona along with several nieces and nephews.
A gathering in her memory will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Ladies’ Literary Club, located at 218 North Washington Street, in Ypsilanti. Brunch will be served at the service. We encourage former students and friends of the family to attend. Parking is available at the adjacent church parking lot.
