Scofield, Douglas Alan – Age 83 of Traverse City Michigan quietly passed away Friday, October 14, 2022, at his home.

Doug graduated from Flint Tech High School in 1957 and moved to Williamsburg, MI in 1992 after retiring from Chevrolet Die and Engineering Center in Flint, MI after 32 years as a Die Maker.

Doug was an avid endurance athlete for many years competing in the Boston Marathon several times, the American Birkebeiner, and was a nationally ranked master triathlete. After retiring, Doug and his wife Karen became active volunteers in the local community working to extend the local TART trail and maintaining the VASA cross country and mountain bike trails. They were also long time members of the Traverse City Track club. Doug and Karen were passionate Tango dancers spending winters in Buenos Aires for 10 years immersing themselves in the Tango culture of the region and were very active dancers in the TC and St. Petersburg FL Tango clubs.

Doug is survived by his wife of 65 years Karen Lee (Mooney), three son’s (James (63), Robert (61), and Mark (57)) and their families, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Doug will be greatly missed but never forgotten by his family and friends.

The family plans to host a celebration of Doug’s life here in TC in the spring. Karen and her sons would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the many friends who provided their generous support and companionship during Doug’s final months, in addition to Pro Medical Hospice, Dr’s Bradley Goodwin and Michael Howe, and Kyle Hamilton MS, PT.
