Eileen Marie Haywood, 93, of Traverse City, passed peacefully November 27, 2024. She was born on June 5, 1931 in Traverse City the daughter of Archie and Jesse (Riley) Adams. She graduated from Traverse City High School.

She stayed home to take care of her children until they started school. Eileen then worked as a secretary for Oak Park School, a Traverse City Orthodontist's office, before her employment with Michigan Bell Telephone Company, where she retired after many years. She and her husband were former members of Oak Park Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She especially enjoyed knitting various items for the church bazaar. After her husband’s death she became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.

Eileen enjoyed doing ceramics, knitting, and sewing clothes for her children. Her favorites were hats and mittens with matching sweaters. Family was always important to Eileen. She enjoyed going to the "Kalkaska" cabin on the north branch of the Boardman River where she loved to watch the deer and wildlife. Her favorites were the birds. She had many bird feeders and books that she enjoyed.

Eileen was known for her fantastic homemade brownies that no one could duplicate. She was regularly asked to make them for family and friends.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Todd) Pifer of Buckley; grandchildren, Jennifer Atwood, Alyssa Knopp, Kelly Cox, Jessica Harrand, Holly Watkins, and Takis Pifer; 13 great-grandchildren and brother Don (Colleen) Adams.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Jesse; husband, Kenneth, daughter, Karen Hamlin; siblings, Edith, Doris, Fern, Norma, Jackie, and half-brothers, Stanley and Raymond.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. The family will greet friends starting at 10 am. The burial will be held at 1:30 pm at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, Traverse City.
