Eugene Dater Fox 65 of Traverse City died Wednesday, January 19, 2010.
Eugene was born on February 22, 1944 in Lansing the son of Robert D. and Pauline C. (Struble) Fox. He graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette.
Eugene was known for volunteering and advocacy for the mentally ill and homeless with Safe Harbor in Traverse City and St. Francis House in Columbia, Missouri.
Eugene loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He received awards for his volunteerism and the “Unsung Hero Award" from Gov. Granholm.
Eugene is survived by his daughter, Torianne M. Gilland and her fiancé, Michael Larke, son, Erick Fox of Pickford, grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, Anthony, great-granddaughter, Cheyenne, sister, Paula (Don) Ruleau of Escanaba, brothers, Robert (Brenda) Romig-Fox of Ypsilanti and John Fox of Florida.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and nephews, Preston and Ambrose.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Traverse Bay United Methodist Church. The family will greet family and friends starting at 1:00 pm.
Memorial Contributions may be made to his daughter, Torianne Gilland.
The family has chosen Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City to handle the arrangements. A full obituary will be in a later publication.
