Frederick Gerald Cripps, 71, of Thompsonville, passed away, Saturday, December 2, 2023.

He was born on June 21, 1952 in Manistique, Michigan the son of Charles and Irene (Sebeck) Cripps. He was proud to be a Member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.

Fred retired from Smeltzer Orchard Co., after working over a decade; he retired in 2016.

He liked spending time in his Shed, just tinkering around and having a Miller Lite. He loved woodworking and making things for Vanessa. She once asked for a picnic table and he made her two tables. Fred spent a lot of time with his “Buddy'' great-grandson Greyson. He enjoyed being in his yard and taking Greyson on rides on the lawn mower. Fred spent his spare time watching Life Below Zero and Old Western movies.

Fred married the former, Vanessa (Schoch) on April 23, 2004 in Mesick, she survives him along with his children, Mary (David) Robnolte of Copemish, Janie Clark of Owosso, Mike (Katrina) Schoch of Grand Rapids, Pam Gamelin of Owosso, Fred Strahle of Missouri and Kelly Silvia of Thompsonville; brothers, Mel (Mia) of Copemish and Abe (Jenna) of Owosso; sisters, Sandy (Ed) of Escanaba, Tina of Thompsonville, Denise (Ed) of Honor, and Mary (Mike) of Owosso; 20 grandchildren and 23 great -grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irene; his son, Jeremy; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; 3 grandchildren and his nephew.
