Gwynn K. Morey, age 104, passed away peacefully at Boardman Lake Glens in Traverse City, MI on Thursday, March 2, 2023. Gwynn was born in Mentor, OH to Benjamin and Katherine (Schneidner) Morey. Gwynn married the love of his life, Elizabeth (LaTart) in 1947 and together they raised two daughters. Theirs was a marriage of love and devotion to one another and of working side-by-side in the family business.

Gwynn’s father died when he was a young boy and with four children to raise, his mother Katherine took over operation of the family business, Morey’s Mill. Later in life Gwynn and his brother Howard assumed ownership of the business and continued to build on the legacy their mother had established. After Howard’s retirement, Gwynn continued to operate the business until his retirement. Today the Seeley Family pays homage to the legacy of Morey’s Mill at The Cider Mill restaurant.

Gwynn’s was a life well lived, and for those who knew him, it was so beautiful to be a part of his life. He was a kind and gentle man. He always looked for the best in everyone and brought out the best in those who knew him. He had a sincere interest and curiosity to learn about the lives of others and to share stories of his life. He created deep connections to people by always listening, never judging, and offering encouragement and support to friends during challenging times in their lives. In business he treated customers like guests in his home and employees like family. His impact was evident in the number of young people who worked for him in their teens and continued to reach out to him long after they had children of their own. To many of those young people, he was a father-figure, part of their extended family and a mentor. He had a tremendous passion for the history of the Town of Onondaga which he loved sharing with others and was even more passionate about his family heritage, becoming the historian of the Morey and Schneidner families.

Gwynn was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Howard and Robert Morey and sister, Marion Alderman, his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth, and his daughter Nancy (Vincent) Czapla.

He is survived by his daughter Rebecca (John) Bercini, loving niece Janice (Burt) Pedersen, son-in-law Vincent Czapla, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place in Syracuse at a later date.
