James McKenzie

James Paul McKenzie, age 79 of Traverse City died Weds July 13, 2022.

Jim was born September 11, 1942, in Flint Michigan the youngest child of Paul and Marguerite (Carrigan) McKenzie.

He proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1960-1964. Jim’s career including working for General Motors, Idaho Air National Guard and Consumers Energy. The family then moved to Traverse City in 1977 where Jim spent many years in wholesale electrical distribution at Fitzpatrick Electric.

On June 27, 1964, he was united in marriage with Donna (Newbury) McKenzie who survives. Also surviving are his 3 children; Ian (Michelle Smith) McKenzie, Heather M. (David) Dhaseleer, Laura (Tim) Brackett, 4 grandchildren; Sylvia Dhaseleer, Mya Dhaseleer, Christopher Brackett, Dalton Brackett, 2 step-grandchildren; Matthew Smith, Marissa Smith and 1 brother, Edward McKenzie. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Lou.

Those who new Jim knew that fly fishing was his greatest pleasure. He always carried a rod should an opportunity present itself. Idaho was his favorite place to fish. Jim and Donna loved to travel the backroads of the country always finding the best fishing spots along the way.
