James Anthony Tarras, 74, of Interlochen, Michigan, died March 31, 2025. Jim was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on January 4, 1951, to Stanley and Sophia (Kania) Tarras.
Jim graduated from high school in Saginaw in 1969. He enlisted in the Army from 1970-1973. After the Military he returned to Saginaw and then started his own contracting and building company; he later moved to Traverse City in 1975 where he started Tarras Construction.
Jim’s passion was construction/building from sheds to garages to pole barns/to homes and hotels; he even built a Ballpark and dabbled with furniture and stain glass pieces. He enjoyed watching the University of Michigan Wolverines football, the Lions, the Tigers, racing, and watching any sport with a motor.
Jim is survived by his wife, Betty Albrecht-Tarras, whom he married on February 27, 1998, in Las Vegas. He is also survived by sons, Kevin (Ashley) Tarras, Kyle (Rachel) Tarras; grandchildren, Desmond, Esme, Reese, and Rhett; siblings, Pam (Chuck), Pisha (John), Joanie (Bob), Mitch (Gretchen), Deneane; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Sophia Tarras; sister, Barbara; and brother-in-law, Hasan.
