John Thomas “Tom” Bryan, 74, of Traverse City Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2019 while at home with his wife, Della, by his side after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Tom was born on October 10, 1944 in Rutland, OH. After finishing high school, he moved to Central Lake, Michigan where he met Della Meadows while working at Shanty Creek Lodge. While attending Northwestern Michigan College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Tom and Della married on May 14, 1966 and then moved to North Dakota where he was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base. He served as an Airman First Class and was later promoted to Staff Sargent. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Tom and Della then made their home in Traverse City, MI, and Tom later retired from the State of Michigan’s State Hospital System.

A true American Patriot, Tom enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Della, attending church, working in the yard, going on walks, Ohio State football, playing Bingo, eating Culver’s vanilla milkshakes, and spending time with family and friends.

Tom is survived by Della, his loving wife of 52 years; his two daughters, Tami Cleland and Kelly (Dan) Carroll; eight grandchildren, Ashleigh, Aric, Alex, Abby, Alyssa, Jake, Adam and Alli; a brother, Danny (Mary) Bryan; a sister, Chris Russell; a sister-in-law, Sue (Rod) Aldrich; two brothers-in-law, Phil (JoEl) Meadows and Alvin (Diane) Meadows; a sister-in-law, Gail Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Bryan; his parents-in-law, Leonard and Rachel Meadows; two brothers, Stan and Albert Bryan; two sisters, Norma Kay Bryan and Dottie Scarbery; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Russell; and a sister-in-law, Barb Bryan.

A celebration of his life and Military Honors will take place 2pm, Friday, June 14, 2019 at Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
