Life Story / Obituary

Julie Ann Pierce 56 of Traverse City, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017. She was born in Paradise Twp., the daughter of Jerry Vincent and Marinetta (Lardie) Pierce.

Julie graduated from Kingsley High School. She married the father of her children, Mark Vastine on October 26, 1985.

She spent a large part of her children’s school-aged years volunteering for TCAPS and eventually becoming a special education aide. As her children grew up and graduated; she found a special interest in working at Covell Funeral Home; where she felt called to comfort grieving families.

She was strong in her faith and enjoyed going to church retreats such as DeColores. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, often spoiling them, as well as her many nieces and nephews and their child who all lovingly called her “Crazy Aunt Julie.”She loved Vince Gill who she referred to as her “Boyfriend” and he will no doubt be lost without her as well. She also loved ‘The Wizard of Oz” and the prospect of being “somewhere over the rainbow.” But above all she loved to write and share her works with others and having been published in the local newspaper and college magazine.

Julie is survived by her, daughter, Kimberly, (Andy) Jacobson and their children, Cecelia and Elias; her son, Glen (Kelsey Topous) Vastine and their children, Aubrie and Elyanna; her father, Jerry Pierce; her siblings, Janet (Frank), Judy and Jeff; nieces; nephews and close friends the Roops.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Pierce and her former husband and father of her children, Mark Vastine.

Memorial Services will be held 11 am, Monday, December 18, 2017 at Life Story Funeral Home. The family will continue an informal gathering from 11:45 pm to 1:30 pm. Contributions may be made to her daughter, Kimberly Jacobson to help with expenses. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guestbook, share your thoughts with the family and more.
