Karen Lea (Tossey) Groesser, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Feburary 15th, 2020 at her home on Island Lake following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Karen was 77.

Born on Janurary 14th, 1943 in Cadillac, Mi to the late Myron (Jim) and Geraldine (LaForest) Tossey.

She married Phil Groesser of Suttons Bay on September 9th, 1961 at St Francis Church in Traverse City. They moved to Mt Pleasant Mi where Phil attended Central Michigan University and Karen worked at an eye clinic until they started a family.

Together they had two sons Chris Groesser of Rochester Hills and the late Paul Groesser of Traverse City. Later they moved to Owosso where Karen worked at the families State Farm Insurance office. She continued working with Phil when he managed an Agency Management office in Mt. Pleasant, then later in Traverse City where they became residents at Island Lake in 1992. Leaving management in 1995, they returned to insurance agent work in Traverse City, retiring in 2008. Karen is survived by her husband Phil, son Chris and wife Kari and their children Madelyn, Owen, Lily and Ella of Rochester Hills, Mi and also Sarah a grandaughter from Paul. Karen is also survived by one sister Sally Carlisle of Traverse City and many nieces, nephews and special friends.. Karen was predeceased by her mother, father and sister Linda Hains also of Traverse City.

Karen enjoyed returning to Traverse City in 1992 and especially living on Island Lake with many great friends. She enjoyed hosting her grandchildren and other visitors who came to enjoy the beauty of Island Lake. Karen loved to be outdoors and boating. Karen was competitive by nature and enjoyed watching all types of sports on TV. In particular, she enjoyed following Michigan State University sports. An avid game player, Karen enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with her relatives, friends and neighbors.

Karen loved and was proud of her five grandchildren. Karen cared for her handicapped granddaugther Sarah for over 21 years in her Island Lake home.

Karen loved her Lord and Savior and attended the Church of the Living God for over 20 years. While at Livng God, Karen and Phil where blessed to make many lasting friendships.

A memorial service celebrating Karen’s life will held on February 23rd at The Church of the Living God, 1514 Birmley Rd. Traverse City starting at 2:00pm followed by lunch and visitation. The family will greet friend starting at 1pm. Burial will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Suttons Bay in the Spring.
