Lorraine Jacobson

Lorraine Mary Jacobson, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, with her two sons Matt and Andy, at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jacobson, in 2009 and parents, Fred and Theresa Rackow.

Lori was born November 17, 1955, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the first of the four Rackow children. Siblings Al, Patty, and Dennis survive her. She married her husband Paul in 1975 and they moved to Traverse City, Michigan during Paul’s tenure with the United States Coast Guard. Lori still resided in the house they built together in 1977 and had many longtime friends who also remained in the neighborhood. Paul and Lori welcomed Matt in 1978 and later, Andy, in 1980. She called them her “Planters Peanut babies” at birth because of their small sizes, each weighing in at just around five pounds.

Lori retired from her custodial position at TCAPS in 2016 after 22 years. She enjoyed collecting gingerbread men, going “back home” to Wisconsin and bringing back Danish Kringle pastries and candy raisins to her Michigan family, watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel any time of the year, Peeps marshmallows, the Green Bay Packers, and finding a good bargain but most of all, she loved her family. She was affectionately referred to as “Ma” by her Planters Peanuts Matt and Andy, “LJ” by daughter-in-law Kim, and “Nana” by grandchildren Olivia, Ayden, Cecelia, and Elias who will all miss her greatly.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Timothy Archer and the Emergency Department at Munson for their kindness and compassion, as well as Vaughn Seavolt of Life Story Funeral Home, who helped the family navigate final arrangements.

Cremation has taken place and the family will be hosting an outdoor celebration of life in the summer of 2022 at a date yet to be determined, in Traverse City.
