Lottie Heiermann passed away on February 2, 2025, with family and caregivers by her side at Boardman Lake Glens in Traverse City, MI.

She was born, October 7, 1928, to Sallie Jane (Wachob) and Lemmer C. Sapp in Hawthorne, FL. Her early years and school years were spent in Fernandina Beach, FL with her parents, three brothers, and a sister.

She met Robert (Bob) Heiermann in Jacksonville, FL and they were married in June 1948. In 1949, her life dramatically changed when she boarded a train with their first child to Buchanan, MI to visit Bob’s family. In 1957, they had a second child and made their home there. She would live with Bob in Buchanan until his death in 1994. In 2010, she moved to Grand Ledge, MI, and later Traverse City, MI, to be near her daughter’s family.

Lottie worked as a secretary in the legal and finance field at a time when married women usually did not work outside the home. She became a strong and independent woman and that spirit - along with her sharp wit and love of fashion - remained with her throughout her 96 years. You could expect her to share a “zinger” comment with you but then you knew you were in her warm heart and she cared for you. She enjoyed the game of golf and wore the snappiest golf clothing on the course.

She was the matriarch of four generations and loved, and was loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren endlessly. Hugh, her son, was an elite golfer and if you were a golfer, she would always ask you, “So how was your game today?” She was so proud of the accomplishments of her grandsons and knew she was blessed to live and enjoy the stories of her five great-grandchildren.

Lottie is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Gary) Boyce of Traverse City; daughter-in-law, Rosario Sanchez of Puebla, Mexico; grandchildren, Dr. Andrew (Angela) Boyce of Traverse City and Adam (Rebecca) Boyce of Madison, CT; great-grandchildren, Jack Boyce of Washington, D.C., Sophia Boyce of Boston, MA, Aidan Boyce of Providence, RI, Lucca Boyce and Cecelia Boyce of Madison, CT.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lemmer and Sallie Jane Sapp; by her husband, Robert Heiermann; son, Hugh Heiermann of Puebla, Mexico; sister, Ophelia Liebtag, and brothers Houston, Elwood and John (Ted) Sapp.

A private service will be held in March at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City.
