Mary Avery

Mary Anne Avery, 54, of Old Mission Peninsula, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Munson Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born May 13, 1962, the daughter of Philip and Marguerite (Vincent) Weatherholt. On November 4, 1988, she married Mark Avery in Traverse City.

Mary and Mark lived on the family farm for the last 26 years. As a family business, everyone worked the orchards together during cherry harvest and all looked forward to lunch at Mary’s house.

The gravitational center of the Weatherholt family, Mary was the consummate hostess for family gatherings and Detroit Lions game days. Mary passed at her favorite time of year, with family gathered around to celebrate Christmas.

Mary is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Mark; her parents; her two sons, Alex (Sara) of Hudsonville and Spencer of Traverse City; her grandchildren, Kadence, Molly, and Benjamin; her siblings, Mark (Maristella) of San Diego, David (Tracey) of Traverse City, Sara (Bob) O’Hara of Sheboygan WI, and Ellen (Matt) Lambert of Denver; her sister-in-law Nancy Weatherholt of Traverse City; sister-in-law Anita (Tom) Fisher; brother-in-law Lanny (Mary) Avery, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Matthew and her parents-in-law James and Geneva Avery.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family will greet friends starting at 10 AM.
