Michael David DeShane, age 64, passed away on June 9, 2018. He was born on February 19, 1954 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Barbara Page and Michael DeShane Lanning.

Michael attended Godwin High School where he earned his varsity letter in football. He moved to Elk Rapids in the early 80’s to start a family. Michael was the proud owner/operator of MD Painting in Elk Rapids for nearly 30 years. He was extremely passionate about his business and very few people worked as hard as he did. Michael was also a huge fan of University of Michigan football and basketball and collected most anything with their logo.

Although summers in northern Michigan were very busy for him he truly enjoyed loading up his pontoon with his three daughters, his golden retriever, Beau, plenty of snacks, drinks and everyone’s favorite tunes before heading down the River to the Elk Lake sandbar. Michael always made sure his family, friends and, actually, anyone around him was having a good time.

Michael is survived by his mother, Barbara Rutcoskey; his daughters: Danielle Misiolek (Jessie), Britnie DeShane (Zack) and Nicole DeShane; his stepson Charlie Klingbeil; nine grandchildren: Kalan, Zaylee, Ethan, Adrian, Heaven, Layne, Alyssa, Korina and Tayshaun; sister Tammy Turenne (Bill); nephews Mike and Austin; niece Ashlynn, and his special friend Angela Huizar, of Kingsley, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father Michael DeShane Lanning.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in his honor on Monday, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elk Rapids Golf Club. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book and share your thoughts and memories with the family. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, 400 W. Hammond Rd., Traverse City.
