Norma Gabier

Norma was born August 15th, 1935 in Solon township In Leelanau County to Harry and Ruth (Boon) Antoine. She was a cherry farmer’s daughter who did not have electricity in her house until she was 13 years old. A week, after graduating from High School, she married Leo Gabier and moved to Maine as a Navy Wife.

Norma and Leo raised three kids in Traverse City, MI, Jeff, Julie, and Jerry. Norma has six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Norma graduated from Northwestern Michigan College as a LPN. Norma worked as a switchboard operator, a nurse for an osteopathic hospital, then the State Hospital in Traverse City.

Norma was a wonderful cook, baker, canner, birder, and gardener. Norma and Leo celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. She was a member of the Grawn Methodist Church.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Laurie and Alice and her grandson, Alec Gabier.

A celebration of life will be held this summer at their Boardman Valley farm.
