Olive Mae Maas, 94 of Traverse City, passed away on September 1,2018 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, surrounded by her sons. Olive was born on August 7,1924 to George and Anna Bakewell, at their family home in Livonia Township. Olive was the fourth of six children.

Olive received her Registered Nursing degree in 1945 from Harper Hospital in Detroit. She was passionate about being a nurse throughout her entire life. She worked in many medical settings and continued reading nursing journals and participating in research through Harvard and Yale University until shortly before her death.

Olive married Herman Maas on April 19,1947, in Farmington, Michigan. They later moved to Hale, Michigan, where they raised their four sons. Olive loved spending time with her sons and attended all of their many sporting events, during their school years. She was also a very caring friend who gave freely of her nursing skills when others needed help. Olive loved to gather and socialize with friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, and fishing. She also loved to watch the Tigers I

Olive and Herman spent their retirement years in Florida. They used their free time to travel extensively throughout the United States. After Herman's death in 2013, Olive returned to Michigan to be closer to her boys and their families.

Olive was predeceased by her husband, Herman; brothers, Elton, Wesley and William and her sister Alice. She is survived by one brother, Eugene Bakewell; her children, George (Patricia), Dan, Alan, Ernie (Michelle); grandchildren, James (Stephanie), Kim, Kathryn, Ryan (Amy), Adam (Ten), Amanda, and Haley and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Phoebe, Luke, Edison and Brinley.
