Robert Hamilton

Robert “Bob” Richard Hamilton 69, of Maple City, passed away peacefully in his home after a long and valiant battle with cancer on January 13th, 2022.

Bob was born on August 21st, 1952 on a United States Army Base in Sendai, Japan to the late William Earl and Mitzuko (Inobe) Hamilton. Robert had 3 children with his wife, Deena (Lepley) Hamilton.

Bob graduated from Anchor Bay High School in 1970. Once graduated Bob joined the U.S. Coast Guard and continued his education at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy where he went on to graduate with his Bachelors of Science and Maritime Technology. Bob then went to work for American Steamship Company where he retired from the American Mariner steam ship as the Chief Engineer after 40 years of dedicated service. Bob was deeply loved aboard the Mariner. He enjoyed telling stories about his days on the ship to anyone who would listen.

Once retired Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his sons James and Erik. Whether it was tinkering on things in his pole barn or making improvements on his property. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter Lily ride her horses in barrel races. He was a very proud grandfather and loved watching Lily dedicate herself at such a young age.

Bob’s favorite pastime was to ride his motorcycles. Bob spent as much time as he could riding on his bright yellow Harley all over Northern Michigan, from Empire Beach to the Mackinac Bridge. He enjoyed riding with friends and family. You could always catch Bob in Cedar getting an ice cream cone on a warm summer day.

Bob is survived by his wife, Deena (Lepley) Hamilton and children, James (Angilee) Hamilton, Shannon Sheridan and grandchildren Lily and Van, Erik Sleder and grandson Liam. His brother James Hamilton, nephews Ryan, Ross and niece Dana.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents William Earl and Mitzuko (Inobe) Hamilton. The family would like to thank the people of Munson Healthcare Hospice for their support and caring hands.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, January 22nd, 2022.The family invites close family and friends to the Hamilton Family home in Maple City. The family asks that you stop by between 1:00pm and 4:00pm to visit and celebrate the amazing life of Bob Hamilton.
