Robert James Pascoe, 69, was born on June 9, 1954 in San Pedro, California; the son of James William and Shirley Joyce (Niemi) Pascoe. He currently resided in Traverse City.

Jim was raised in Escanaba, Michigan with his parents and 6 siblings. Summer vacation at age 14, Jim’s Dad gave him a pair of work boots and he started working summers for the family business, Pascoe Construction; working every summer until he graduated from Escanaba High School in 72’, he was always thankful for the work ethic his dad enforced.

After high school graduation, Jim went on to earn his Associates of Arts degree from Bay De Noc Community College before heading off to Northern Michigan University to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in 77’.

After college, he immediately pursued a career in the insurance industry where he spent his entire career in claims, working for big companies including, Transamerica & Lake States Insurance; ultimately retiring in the early 2000’s as Vice President of the claims department for Hagerty Insurance Agency.

Jim was a proud father to his two children, Jennifer & JW.

Jim had a talent for writing and used his humor and wit when writing movie reviews and articles. He was hoping Hallmark would one day accept his submissions.

He also spent many years as a competitive runner, sometimes joking about the miles he’d get out running but referring to collecting Marlboro miles. He ran many miles and marathons in his life, not sure if his miles on foot ended up more than the miles he’d collect for free stuff from Marlboro.

Though not an avid traveler, Jim was known to take a quick trip to Texas a time or two to see his daughter and grandkids or head up north to visit family. His borrowed quote about traveling was “Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days”, so he’d make his trips short and sweet. Jim also looked forward to visits with his granddaughters, Rachel & Allison, he was always happy to spend any bit of time with them hearing about their lives. Jim’s passion for Football was always a topic of conversation, he’s always been a loyal Atlanta Falcons fan, and eagerly awaited each football season.

Jim’s one-liners and wisdom will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Jen (Clete) Burrows; grandchildren, Rachel, Allison, Hadley, Berkley and Bryce; siblings, Joe (Sharon) Pascoe, Dave (Debby) Pascoe, Tom (Joan) Pascoe, Dan (Theresa) Pascoe, Laurie Kemink and Kathleen (Kevin) DeMent, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, J.W. Pascoe II; parents; grandparents and brother-in-law, John Kemink.

Jim’s family will celebrate his life later this summer.
