GRAWN - Robert (Bob) Maddox (84) was born in Cadillac on October 2,1937 to John David and Golda (Jerrett) Maddox. Bob passed away on February 8, 2021, at his home attended by his wife of 61 years.

Bob graduated from Cadillac High School in 1955. He declined a football scholarship to join the Navy and travel the world. After his stint in the Navy, he started work at the Kalamazoo State Hospital. He married his wife Sarah (Herringa) on January 28, 1961. Together they moved to Traverse City and he began his career at the Traverse City State Hospital where he worked until it closed. He enjoyed continued education and obtained degrees in both Business/Hospitality and Nursing.

Bob was never one to be idle. He was very involved in the labor union for the State Hospital, serving as the President for many years. He loved to advocate for the people. That passion continued in retirement as the area representative for SERA (State Employee Retirees Association).

Bob was a tinkerer and liked to ride and work on bicycles. He always wanted to make sure that the neighborhood kids had bikes of their own and would teach them how to maintain them. Bob would be a helping hand at the BMX track for his grandsons. He was also “that person” who would just stop everything to help a lost soul. He had and felt the need to help people.

Bob and Sarah welcomed three children, daughters, Tina (Daryl) Lehn, Lorri Maddox and son, Samuel Maddox. Five grandchildren, Jacob (Jennifer) Lehn, Amanda (Cory) Markham, Jason Bush, Adam (Tiffany) Bush, and Ryan Maddox along with six great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes cremation has taken place. There is no service planned at this time. We ask that you reflect on your memories of Bob and hold your own family close during these difficult times.
