Life Story / Obituary

Robert Henry Sika, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away suddenly the evening of Monday, November 29, 2021 surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Bob was born July 2, 1933 to Thomas and Stefanie (Skoumal) Sika; the youngest of six children. He grew up on the family farm in Karlin.

Bob met the love of his life, Lois Largent, and they were married on September 6,1953. Their love for one another was the foundation that they built their life upon and a goal we all aspire to. Together they raised their three children. Bob and Lois were married for 63 years before Lois passed away in 2020. Losing the love of his life broke his heart. We know that they are now reunited and his heart is whole once more. While we grieve our loss, we can't help but celebrate their heavenly reunion.

Bob was a proud Korean War veteran serving in the US Army. One of his proudest moments was attending the Honor Flight to Washington DC with local veterans, and sharing this honor with his son who was able to accompany him.

Bob was a long standing, dedicated member of West Bay Covenant Church. He found joy in serving his Lord in so many ways; multiple trips to Mt. Mission in Virginia, Friday morning lawn care and coffee with friends, and most recently folding onsies for the Baby Pantry.

Bob was an amazing, kind hearted man. He was always available to lend a helping hand wherever needed. He was truly a Jack of all trades. While the majority of his work was in the automotive industry, he should have been a carpenter. He was happiest with a hammer in one hand and a tape measure in the other. "Watcha goona do with that wood?" became his catch phrase. His passion for woodcutting was renown. The size of a man's wood pile was a measure of character. Towards the end of his life he was only able to work the lever of his wood splitter, but he did it proudly and cheerfully. Most recently Bob was employed by the American Canadian Fisheries/DNR to manage the operation of the Boardman River Fish Wier.

Above all; Bob was a family man. He was the absolute best example of husband and father. He found joy in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He never hid his emotions so we always knew and took strength in his abundant love.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Laura Sika and Roberta (Ray) Wonders, his son, Richard (Jeanine) Sika, his grandchildren, Rob Zarafonitis, TJ (Kara) Zarafonitis, Eric Sika, Tyler (Arielle) Sika, Breanne Sika, Mariah Sika, Raymond (Heather) Wonders, Mackenzie Wonders and Hunter Wonders; his great-grandchildren, Madyson and Tucker Clous, Korbin Sika, Fletcher and Samuel Zarafonitis, Asher Sika and his soon to be great-grandaughter Baby Girl Wonders; his loved sister-in-law Delores Hudson of Ravenna, Ohio and many nieces, nephews and cherished life-long friends.

The memorial service for Bob will be held at West Bay Covenant Church on Cherrybend Road in Traverse City on Wednesday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m.

A celebration of his life along with a luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Bay Covenant Church or the Alzheimer's Association in his wifes name.
