Shelley Patt

Shelley Lynn Patt, 56, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022. The daughter of Steven Louis Bates and Suzanne Lee (Waite) Pahl.

Shelley was born May 15, 1966, in Traverse City. She graduated from Traverse City Central in 1984. After graduation she went on to earn an associate of arts degree in accounting. Throughout life she worked as a waitress and bookkeeper for various organizations. She also spent time living in Grand Rapids as well as Los Angeles, California.

She always loved animals, wild and domestic. Over the years she cared for a wide variety of pets. She had mice, gerbils, turtles, fish, polliwogs that grew into frogs, rabbits, several feral and domesticated cats (including a baby skunk she thought was a kitten). She took care of and fed; deer, wild birds, a parakeet, and two special cockatiel birds named Suzie and Rosie that loved rock and roll. Ultimately, Shelley passionately loved dogs. Her dapple Dachshund Lacey, that flew regularly from LA to TC, Bubba the Boxer, and silly sweet Victor, an Australian Shepherd.

Shelley is survived by her mother, Suzanne L. (Don) Pahl; her stepmother, Lois Bates; her sister, Tracy (Colin) Schworm; and nieces, Erin and Haley Schworm.

She was preceded in death by her father, Steven L Bates; her grandparents, Leighton and Betty Bates, Fred and Dorothy Waite; and her aunt, Beverly Walkington.

Memorial Contribution may be made to Cherryland Humane Society, Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse, Inc., and Goodwill Inn in Traverse City.
