Life Story / Obituary
Audrey Gale Landsfeld (Jakee)
August 28, 1958 – February 20, 2026
With shattered hearts, we share the unexpected passing of our mom, grandma, wife, and the heart of our family, Audrey Gale Landsfeld (Jakee), on February 20, 2026.
Born on August 28, 1958, in Traverse City, Audrey was a lifelong resident who loved her town deeply. She was the daughter of Alberta Jakee, and she carried her mother’s strength with her throughout her life.
On December 15, 2004, she married the love of her life, Greg Landsfeld, in Kauai, Hawaii. Their 21 years together were filled with devotion, laughter, partnership, and a love that never wavered. They stood beside each other through every high and low, always choosing one another.
Our mom spent over 10 years working at J&S Hamburg on South Airport. But to say she “worked there” doesn’t begin to explain who she was. She was the steady presence. The one who never missed a shift. The one who cared deeply about the staff, the customers, and the community. She didn’t just show up — she showed up with heart. She has left an imprint on that restaurant and on all of us that will never fade.
She was also part of the foundation of Project Feed the Kids. From the very beginning, she believed that no child should ever go without food. She packed meals, answered calls, showed up on holidays, and quietly made things happen when families needed help. Serving others wasn’t something she talked about — it was simply who she was.
Above everything, she loved her family fiercely. She is survived by her children: Jason McQueer (Tiffany) of Kingsley; Shanna Olmstead (Skylar) of Buckley; and Ben McQueer (Tressa) of Traverse City.
Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren: Alyssa, Jenna, Cheila, Tyler, Hunter, Kennedy, Destiney, Drake, Mason, London, and Aria. Being “Grandma” was her favorite title. She loved going to yard sales with them, thrifting for treasures, and making simple days feel special.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Jakee; her brother, Kenneth Soper; Beloved husband Greg; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins.
When she wasn’t working or helping someone, you could find her in her recliner playing Candy Crush, watching Little House on the Prairie, or loving on her dog, Lucy. She found joy in the simple things. She was steady. She was strong. She was home.
Our mom was the backbone of our family. She was the one we could count on. The one who never stopped giving. The one who quietly carried more than most people ever knew.
Her legacy will live on in the meals still being packed, in the families still being helped, and in every grandchild who carries a piece of her forward.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Project Feed the Kids in Audrey’s memory, so we can continue the mission she loved so much.
We will miss her every single day.
Gregory James Landsfeld
April 23, 1961 – February 20, 2026
Gregory James Landsfeld, born April 23, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026. He was the son of James Daniel Landsfeld and Darleen Esther Landsfeld. His father was a stern disciplinarian, an artsy musician, and a devoted teacher, while his mother was motherly, caring, beautiful, and an amazing cook. Together, they shaped Greg’s strong work ethic, appreciation for life’s simple joys, and the steady, grounded man he became.
Greg graduated from Redford High School in Detroit with an impressive 4.0 GPA, a reflection of the intelligence and discipline that would guide him throughout his life. He went on to attend Wayne State University, where he earned his degree and passed the CPA exam. Greg built a respected career partnering with several firms before eventually settling in Traverse City, Michigan, where he was preparing for retirement.
Exceptionally gifted with numbers, Greg was meticulous and dedicated in his work, always ensuring tax returns were completed precisely and to the letter of the law. His talent in mathematics showed early—he proudly wore a shirt that read “EMU Math Expert” after competing in a high school math competition at Eastern Michigan University.
Outside of his profession, Greg embraced life’s simple and meaningful joys. He caught his first pike in 1968, sparking a lifelong love of fishing. Over the years he became an avid kayak fisherman, always planning his next outing on the water. He absolutely loved his well-worn “Gone Fishing” sweatshirt, often wearing it proudly — a quiet reflection of where he was happiest. He loved mushroom hunting, coin collecting, and gardening, especially in his younger years. In his younger days, Greg was an excellent runner, disciplined and determined in every stride he took. He cherished walks with his beloved dog, Lucy. Greg also had a passion for collecting knives, appreciating their craftsmanship and history.
On December 15, 2004, he married the love of his life and true partner, Audrey, in Kauai, Hawaii. Greg’s love for Audrey was truly something special — steady, deep, and present in the quiet ways that mattered most. For 21 beautiful years, they walked through life side by side — devoted, faithful, and deeply connected. Their love was calm and constant, filled with laughter, comfort, and the kind of understanding that only grows stronger with time. Together, they built a life rooted in trust, friendship, and enduring love — and even now, they remain side by side.
Above all, Greg loved his family. With his peaceful, goofy spirit and gentle heart, he adored everyone from the youngest to the oldest. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren: Alyssa, Jenna, Cheila, Tyler, Hunter, Kennedy, Destiney, Drake, Mason, London, and Aria. He took special pride in mentoring them, always taking time to talk, guide, and encourage them every step of the way. He was known for cracking funny jokes at just the right moment, bringing laughter and lightness wherever he went.
Greg leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love in his children: Jason McQueer (Tiffany) of Kingsley; Shanna Olmstead (Skylar) of Buckley; and Ben McQueer (Tressa) of Traverse City. He was a steady, present, and devoted father — the kind who led by example, offered quiet guidance, and showed up consistently with love and support. His children were the pride of his life and the recipients of his unwavering guidance, quiet strength, and unconditional love.
He is also deeply cherished by his father, James Daniel Landsfeld and his father’s companion, Jane Wakelin; and his brother, Daniel Landsfeld, with whom he shared a lifelong and special bond strengthened by years of brotherhood, laughter, shared memories, and unwavering support. In Greg’s final weeks, Daniel became not just a brother, but a steady caregiver and source of comfort — showing a depth of love and selflessness that will never be forgotten. Our family will always hold deep gratitude for the way he honored Greg in those final days. He is lovingly remembered as well by his niece, Aubrey Landsfeld; his nephew, Mark Landsfeld; and many extended family members and treasured friends whose lives were made richer by his kindness, steady presence, and gentle spirit.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Darleen Esther Landsfeld, and his brother, Mark Allen Landsfeld.
Greg passed only hours before his beloved wife, Audrey — a testament to the deep love and unbreakable bond they shared. Though they left this world only hours apart, we find comfort in knowing they continue their journey side by side, just as they always did.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Greg to Project Feed the Kids at projectfeedthekidstc.org.
