Carol Gamelin

Carol Jane (Reams) Gamelin passed away peacefully August 15, 2020 at South Torch Assisted Living in Rapid City, Michigan.

Born in 1933, and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. Carol graduated from Michigan State College - MSU in 1955, and married her dear husband Richard in 1955.

The family settled in Trenton, Michigan. Carol received her Master’s Degree in Teaching from Wayne State University in 1976. She taught at Woodhaven Middle and High School. Carol retired in 1988 and she and Dick moved to Hubbard Lake, Michigan. There she enjoyed visits from her children, their spouses and 16 grandchildren.

Carol will be remembered by her gentle spirit, her love of serving people and her church, her talent for cooking and sewing, and was an avid fan of MSU.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard A. Gamelin, her parents and her siblings.

Carol is survived by her children, Jeff (Dawn) Gamelin of Townville, SC, Janet (Steve) Shantz of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jim Gamelin of Denver, CO, Bob Gamelin of Troy, Michigan and Bill (Deb) Gamelin of Kewadin, MI; her grandchildren, Lauren (Jon) VanKeulen, Jordan (Danielle) Gamelin, Leslie (Will) Gamelin-Roelofs, Libby Gamelin, Nate (Keilah) Shantz, Ben (Joy) Shantz, Leesha Shantz, Jess (Jake) Sinnaeve, Kat (Josh) Gamelin-Dunlop, Alex Gamelin, Rebecca Gamelin, Drake Gamelin, Shane Gamelin, Meghan (Phil) Gutowski, Jared (Hannah) Gamelin, and Mary Gamelin and her great-grandchildren, Josiah Van Keulen, Sam and Beatrice Shantz, Rosie Shantz, Beau and Wells Gutowski.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11am at the Rotary Park Pavilion in Elk Rapids, Michigan. Memorials can be directed to Heartland Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.
