Life Story / Obituary

Catharine Jean Cover (Katie) was born to Orley and Vera (Casey) Bruff on March 6, 1924, in Pontiac, MI. She grew up in Pontiac and married her childhood sweetheart, Robert L. Cover. Together they raised a family, built a successful business and retired to Traverse City. When Bob died suddenly at the age of 59, Katie took on the challenge of making a life without him though she deeply missed him everyday for the next 37 years.

Katie was a warm, friendly woman who had a smile for everyone. She had many good friends who went before her and left many good friends behind. She enjoyed playing bingo at the VFW and 'White Hot Aces' at the casino. She worked the crossword puzzle in ink, enjoyed word search puzzles and playing cards.

Most important to her besides her children who she loved fiercely, was that she be able to live her life independently in her own home. Thankfully she was able to do this. When the time came, she faced death with courage and on her own terms. She said she was ready but we were not.

Katie is survived by her children, Nancy (Gary Garton), Sue and Jeff Barger, and Steve; three grandchildren; two great grand children; many nieces and nephews; and her cousin David (Kathy) Casey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister and brother in law, Marion and Lester Bell and her daughter in law, Patty Cover.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans or charity of choice.

When the time came, she said she was ready but selfishly, we were not. We love you Mom and we will miss you forever.
