Corrine Young

Corinne M. Young, age 86, of Traverse City passed away at Orchard Creek Supportive Care on Friday, December 3, 2010. She was surrounded by family and loved ones.

She was born May 18, 1924 in Flint, Michigan to Augustine and Mildred Engelhart.

Corinne’s education started in a one room schoolhouse in Clio, Michigan. She graduated from St. Michael’s Catholic School in Flint and Marygrove College in Detroit.

Corinne was a teacher in her early years. For many years she volunteered with the Flint School for Mentally Disabled, The National Ski Patrol, Christ Child Society, Walloon Lake Library, Kiwanis and many other charitable organizations.

Her passion for reading played an integral role when she spearheaded the drive to build the new Walloon Lake Library soon after she and Bob retired to the Walloon Lake area.

Her love of the outdoors and nature were fulfilled by spending much time gardening, golfing, playing tennis, downhill skiing and cross country skiing. She was blessed with many beautiful friends who she loved spending time with. Her greatest love and joy was her family and being together with them.

Corinne is survived by her husband, Robert H. Young Jr. her five children, Robert H. Young III (Diane), Barbara J. Miller, Gregory A. Young (Diana), Stephen B. Young (Sandra) and Timothy F. Young (Kathy), her brother Jack Engelhart (Clarice) and sister, Helen Stuntz, her cousin Mary Partee (Jim) along with 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Corinne was known for her life of service to others, her endless smile and the love, dignity and grace she brought to all things she touched.

A Memorial Mass will be held 2pm, Monday, December 27, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mapleton, 13400 Center Rd.., Traverse City, MI 49686 (231) 223-4303, where the family will greet friends starting at 1:30pm.

Memorial contributions can be given to Walloon Lake Library and Christ Child Society.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Orchard Creek Supportive Care that so loved and cared for our dear mother.
