Craig Fleuter

Craig Stephen Fleuter of Traverse City died Tuesday, May 22, 2013. He was born the son of Douglas and Marjorie Fleuter on May 16, 1943 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Craig served in the United Sates Army during the Vietnam era, and was stationed in Germany as a sergeant for the Signal Corps.

Craig was an art teacher. He taught students ranging from kindergarten to high school seniors in and around Jackson Hole, Wyoming for 21 years. He and his family moved to Michigan where he taught art for an additional 14 years at The Pathfinder School.

Craig poured his soul into teaching students not only how to make beautiful works of art, but to also tap the creative spirit hidden within. He touched thousands of lives, and likely guided hundreds of his students toward defining moments.

Craig’s talents were as diverse as his heart was generous. He could build a custom log home from the ground up including drawing up the plans and peeling logs, to crafting the furniture and adorning the walls with paintings

Craig loved to cook for family and friends. He enjoyed golfing and camping and created a multitude of family memories trekking around the country in everything from a VW microbus to a class A motor home.

Whether as an artist, teacher, husband, father, brother or friend, Craig gave all he had to help others and his love will always be a part of us.

Craig is survived by Sherrie, his wife of 43 years, and sons Erik and Brian.

A memorial celebration of Craig’s life will be held 6pm Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Pathfinder School, Traverse City, Michigan; where the family will greet friends starting at 5:30pm. Craig's students are encourage to bring a photo of or with Craig and place on the photo board.
