Life Story / Obituary
Darlene Emma Bertha Zurawski, 84, of Rapid City, died Saturday, May 10th, 2025. She was born on March 4th, 1941 in Salem, Wisconsin the daughter of Frank and Emma (nee Schinke) Schultz. Darlene graduated from high school in 1959.
After high school she was employed as a Port Receptionist with the United States Dept. of Immigration. She greeted travelers at both the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit Metro Airport. She married Harry John Joseph Zurawski on May 12th, 1962 in Mount Clemens, Michigan where they started a family and had three children. Darlene and Harry moved to Yale in 1977 and then moved to Rapid City, Michigan where they have resided for the last thirty years.
Darlene operated several home businesses over the years including that of a dog groomer and a licensed massage therapist. She also assisted in her husband’s taxidermy business and enjoyed being a school bus driver. Darlene enjoyed the outdoors, especially horseback riding. She also loved raising her pet horses and dogs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the Bible. Darlene had a strong faith in Jesus and loved sharing the light and love of Christ to others. She is a member of Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traverse City.
She liked singing with the Antrim County Community Choir, the Bellaire Community Choir and at church. She played multiple musical instruments including the accordion, harp and the hammered dulcimer. Darlene also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Harry Zurawski; sons, Harry (Kim) Zurawski Jr., Kurt Zurawski; daughter, Dina Zurawski; grandchildren, Devin Sempert, Dayne Sempert, Zachary Zurawski and Noah Zurawski and great-grandson, Tucker Sempert.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emma; sisters, Jane, Caroline and Claire; brothers, Wayne and Dean.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traverse City.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, May 19, 2025 at Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2242 Lafranier Rd. Traverse City, Michigan 49686. A light food reception will follow.
