Dave Wesley Witt, 80, of Williamsburg, died Monday, June 16, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1945, in McCook, Nebraska, to Orval Elmer and Gladys Lydia Witt (Wilken).
After high school, Dave attended college and received a Master’s Degree in Business Management from St. Louis University.
He then joined the United States Air Force and received the Rank of Captain in 1972. He was honorably discharged and retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel in 1995.
Dave was a Quality Assurance Officer for the Defense Contract Management Agency in Dayton Ohio. During his tenure he helped acquire the F-15 for the Air Force. He retired in August 2004.
Dave’s first marriage was to Valerie and that ended in divorce. He then married Terry Lynn Storandt on May 2, 1987, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, while aboard the Valley Queen II excursion boat.
He was baptized into the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod faith. Dave was a life member of the NRA and ARRL (American Radio Relay League) and had many hobbies. He joined the Cherryland Amateur Radio Club. He loved camping, fishing, amateur radio, a hobby he shared with Terry, barbequing, visiting lighthouses, and shooting trap and skeet, which he also shared with Terry. Dave was a photographer and had a dark room for developing black and white photographs.
Dave was very talented. He built a radio room in the basement of their Williamsburg home. Terry and Dave built lots of furniture together, such as a picnic table, hope chest, and even an early garage. Dave and Terry made road trips frequently, and in the early days, slept in the back of his truck.
Dave is survived by his first wife, Valerie; his second wife, Terry Witt; daughters, Carey Witt, Beth (Jorn) Freydank and their daughters, Heidi and Lina, and Lydia Witt.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents.
Please make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, or Trinity Lutheran Church in his memory. Burial will be in the Cedar River Cemetery, Stephenson, Michigan.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 13th and Maple Street, Traverse City. A visitation with the family will start at 10:00 am.
