David Harkness

David Randall Harkness, 59, of Traverse City, went to be with Jesus after a brave and courageous two and a half year battle with colon cancer on December 22, 2013.

He was born Sept. 27, 1954 in Lansing, Michigan the son of Lynn and Rosemary (Randall) Harkness.

David graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1972. He was employed as a C.A.C. (Certified Addiction Counselor) at Harbor Hall, Inc. in Petoskey from 1993-2007.

He was a proud member of AA for twenty-one years. David loved nature, walking, birds, animals, loved camping, fishing, traveling, motor cycle rides, watching sunsets and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. David was a very gentle, kind soul who loved his soul mate, Phyllis with all his heart and his family and friends dearly. He was known for his wonderful and fun sense of humor. Dave's favorite saying, "There's always a break in the clouds."

David is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis(Giacomelli) Harkness; they were married on Oct. 12, 1996 in Charlevoix; children, David (Christy) Griffin and Heather Griffin both from Boerne, TX.; sister, Judith (Jim) Bachman of Howell; grandchildren, James, Kaden and Vivyan; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lynn Harkness and mother and step-father Rosemary and Robert Reason and sisters, Carol Wilson and Lynda Harkness.

Memorial services will be held 2pm, Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City. The family will greet friends staring at 1pm.
