David Andrew Whittaker, age 46, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on January 8, 2026.

Born on November 28, 1979, to John Andrew and Barbara Sargent Whittaker, David entered the world with remarkable determination as a premature twin and carried that resilience throughout his life.

David grew up loving the outdoors, spending his childhood exploring the woods, riding bikes, building ramps, and playing hockey with his brothers, Jeremy and his twin brother, James. Hockey became a lifelong passion, and he proudly played goalie through his youth.

Though he faced learning challenges, David was deeply curious, self-taught, and resourceful. He built a respected career in construction, specializing in plumbing, and was known for his strong work ethic, intelligence, and willingness to help others.

David was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He shared his son, Lane Andrew, with his former wife, Candice Begley. In 2014, he found love with Brandy VanVleet, and together they built a life centered around family, adventure, and hard work. David embraced Brandy’s daughters, Vada and Zoey, as his own. He loved camping, hiking, mushroom hunting, bike rides, hockey, and building lasting memories with his family.

David and Brandy married in 2019 and began building their dream home together, working side by side with dedication and love.

David will be remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, determination, and deep love for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Brandy Whittaker; his children, Lane Andrew Whittaker, Sam Brundage, and Zoey June; his parents, John and Barbara Whittaker; his brothers, Jeremy Sargent Whittaker and James Robert Whittaker; and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16, at noon at Mayfield Pond Park. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory. Picnic lunch and beverages will be provided.
