Dorothy Louise Dickerson

September 27, 1925 – January 29, 2022

“Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in endless praise.”

- Frances Ridley Havergal

Dorothy Louise Dickerson, 96, of Traverse City, passed away on January 29, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on September 27, 1925, in Talmage, Nebraska. She met the love of her life, John Henry Dickerson on a blind date when he was home on leave during WW2. They married on June 14, 1947 and were married for 69 years. They bought a cottage on Torch Lake in 1953. They spent every summer there and shared it with family and friends for 63 years.

Dorothy loved the Lord, and her life reflected her deep and abiding faith. She was a force to be reckoned with, determined and never wavering in the things that mattered to her. She was well known and loved at Samaritas where she spent her last years. She loved to bake; she would bring a homemade muffin and card to the residents at Samaritas for their birthday. She was an excellent seamstress. She made quilts for fifty years; all were hand stitched and each one a work of art.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John and her son-in-law, John Larned. She is survived by her children, Susan Larned, Diane (Jeff) Vaphiadis, and John Dickerson III; her grandchildren Harold (RaeAnne), Howie, Emilie, Grace (Isaac), John, Esther, Jack, Libby and Matthew; and her great grandchildren Christian and Asher.

Dorothy’s primary focus was her Lord and her family. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). You ran the race mom; you ran the race! You never faltered, and your reward is sure.

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
