Dr. Lee Wyeth Hawkins, 92 of Traverse City, died, Tuesday, September 3, 2019. He was born on January 18, 1927 in Cuero, Texas the son of Marcellus Haygood and Olive Lee (Logan) Hawkins.

Lee practiced medicine in St. Louis and Traverse City for 37 years, retiring in 1991.

He co-founded the Traverse City Free Clinic and also worked in the Mission field in Mexico at Organizacion Armonia teaching fundamentals of healthcare to non-medical workers.

He headed Armonia U.S. Inc., a nonprofit corporation designed to raise funds and support for Armonia in Mexico.

Lee enjoyed reading, politics, boating, flying, skiing, and hunting with his dog, Josh.

He was a lifelong musician who enjoyed playing piano. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and lively spirit. Lee loved ‘to fly through life.’

Lee is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane Adams Hawkins; they were married on April 30, 1977 at Grace Episcopal Church, Traverse City; sons, Mark, Carl and his wife, Xochitl; stepdaughter, Sara; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. The family will greet friends staring at 10am.
