Edward Anthony Ellul, Sr., 76 of Traverse City, passed away on December 31, 2020. Eddie was born on December 22, 1944 to Emil and Mary Ellul, in their home in Detroit, Michigan. He attended St. Vincent DePaul Catholic School from 1st through 12th grade.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1962, where he served as an Air Force Fire Protection Specialist. He married Sharon Neal in 1963 and they were stationed in the State of Washington and Verdun, France. In 1966, after 4 years of service, he returned to Detroit and became a member of the Detroit City Fire Department until 1976 when he retired due to a disability he suffered as a Fireman.

Ed, Sr. owned investment properties and in 1980 moved to Traverse City and purchased his 1st motel on East Bay, which he named Sugar Beach. He sold that property and purchased the motel across the street, the Budget Inn. Ed, Sr. was later divorced and moved to Las Vegas where he met his current wife, Susie (Hoag). In 2014, they moved back to Traverse City. He had a love of travel, visiting every state in the continental U.S. in 1 summer, camping, and snowmobiling. He was also a true dog lover!

Ed, Sr. is survived by his wife, ex-wife, 5 children, 2 step children, 18 grand children, and 1 great-grand child.

While no memorial service is currently scheduled, a celebration of life ceremony will be held later this year at The Great Lakes National Cemetery.
