Life Story / Obituary

Edward C. Pfuhl Jr. 88 of Traverse City died Saturday, June 11, 2011. He was born on January 23, 1923 in Lansing the son of Edward C. Sr., and Gladys D. (Williams) Pfuhl.

Edward graduated from Everett High School in Lansing. He joined the military; serving in World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea. Edward was a combat medic and received three bronze stars. Before the war he attended Tulane University, and after the War, Michigan State University and received his life degree in Real Estate from the University of Michigan.

Edward married Elaine M. Converse on June 28, 1946 in Lansing. Edward and Elaine moved to Traverse City in 1951. He was a Heating Engineer and Steam Fitter with the Traverse City State Hospital; retiring in 1979.

Edward was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and life member of the Cherryland VFW Post 2780.

Edward loved hunting, fishing, gardening and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a great teacher of life. Edward could fix anything and love to eat, Especially PIE.

Edward is survived by his, wife, Elaine, daughters, Merry (Daniel) MacGirr and Marsha (William) Nemetz both of Traverse City, grandchildren, Matthew (Rebecca) Taylor of Flat Rock, Andrew (Megan) Taylor of Traverse City, George Nemetz of Traverse City, Emily Nemetz of Petoskey, Allison Nemetz, Douglas Nemetz, Cassondra MacGirr and Lukas MacGirr all of Traverse City, sisters, AnnaBelle Cavan of San Diego, brothers, John Pfuhl of San Diego and Charles Pfuhl of Guam.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Margaret Pfuhl Taylor, sister, Marian Knight and brother, Robert Pfuhl.

The family will greet friends from 4pm to 7pm Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church with a gathering 1 hour prior.
