It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Joseph Anderson, age 55, after a valiant 4-year battle with cancer.

Eric loved people. Outgoing and giving by nature, he had a remarkable ability to walk into a room of strangers and leave with a room full of friends. During his school years, he formed a tight-knit bond with a group of friends who affectionately gave him the nickname “Lick.” That circle of friendship remained strong throughout his life.

Eric began a long career in the restaurant business during high school, starting as a busser and ultimately becoming a general manager. But it was behind the bar, surrounded by friends and customers, where he truly thrived. His ability to make each person at the bar feel like they were his closest friend led to a steady stream of regular customers.

Life took Eric to Dallas, Texas, where he lived for nearly 20 years before returning home to Traverse City in 2017. He had many ups and downs in Texas; however, the best thing to happen to him there was meeting his soul-mate, Kim.

When Eric was diagnosed with terminal cancer, his greatest wish was to see his step-daughter, AnaBeth, whom he helped raise since age 5, graduate from high school in May 2026. Though he passed before that day, his love and pride for her will always be felt.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Scott Anderson and Cindy Wheeler; and his grandparents, Gordon and Helen Wheeler, and Gomer “Dave” and Jean Anderson.

He leaves behind his loving partner, Kimberly, as well as his children Katie Ayres (William), and Avery Anderson; grandchildren Riley and Liam; siblings Michael (Sheila) Anderson, Stephanie (Scott) Beckstead, Kristen (Jeff) Moon, Joseph (Autumn) Anderson, and Jennifer Anderson; stepchildren Mia Bolt, Randy Crow and AnaBeth Crow; stepfather Michael Williams; stepsiblings Hillary (Greg) Caske, Forrest Williams, Sarah Williams, David Williams, and Jonathon (Melissa) Williams; stepgrandchildren Mason, Emma and Elizabeth; aunt Sherry (Michael) Barich; and uncle Joseph (Dawn) Anderson.

A celebration of Eric’s life will be held in July 2026, when family and friends will gather to honor the joy, laughter, and love he brought to all who knew him.
