Evelyn Zeits

Evelyn L. Zeits, 90, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at her home while being taken care of by her family.

Evelyn was born on May 11, 1922, in Culver, Ind., the daughter of Floyd V. and Leona L. (Lindzy) Ross. She was born and raised on the family farm. On Dec. 17, 1938, she married Dallas B. Zeits in Marshall County, Ind.

Evelyn was a homemaker most of her life. Many years ago she was the breakfast cook at Dill’s Restaurant.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church for over 60 years and volunteered with the church funeral committee.

Evelyn loved camping, ice fishing, traveling and mushrooming and was a great seamstress and cook.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Tracey) Whitten, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Steve (Carolyn) Whitten, of California, Greg Whitten, Mike (Debbie) Whitten and Kim Whitten, all of Traverse City; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jenny, Janna, Brent, Jason and Brooke; great-great-grandchildren, Brenna, Kalia and Shane; sisters, Ruth Trudeau and Ellen (James) Anderson, both of Indiana; in-laws, Norma Ross, of Indiana, Carl Schlueter, Edward and Mary Jean Flees and Alice Wagner all of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dallas Zeits; sisters, Jenola Taylor, Clarice Tracy and Clara Cole; and brother, Esta “Bud” Ross.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Traverse City, where the family will greet friends one hour prior. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City, with a 7 p.m. rosary recitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or the Grand Traverse Commission on Aging.
