Life Story / Obituary

Gaylord Edwin Gee went home to Jesus peacefully in his home from Alzheimer’s on May 13, 2019 at age of 76. Gaylord was born to Niles Gaylord Gee and Mary Margaret Thomas on July 2, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. As a child Gaylord loved sports, he varsity-lettered in baseball, football and basketball in high school. He also loved to coach American Legion Baseball and for several years he was Director of American Legion Baseball program. Gaylord had a passion for helping and during his tenure at Hibbard Funeral Home he could help those that were hurting or no longer with us.

Afterwards, Gaylord worked at Cone Drive where he retired after 32 years. During retirement he enjoyed driving for Enterprise as he shuttled cars and met new people. Gaylord was a hunter safety instructor for many years. He loved the outdoors and hunting with his kids and grandkids. Many could spot him riding his lawn tractor around the house or plucking dandelions in the front yard, where he resided for 53 years.

Gaylord met his wife Janice as a child. They met one another when Gaylord’s mother invited Janice to be the first to ride his new bicycle and grew up together. They became childhood sweethearts in high school and were married a month after Janice graduated from high school on July 4, 1964. They were married for 54 years. Gaylord always said, “his wedding day was the day he lost his independence.” They went on to have two children Christopher and Tammi (Michael) Simerson. They regarded their niece Jennifer Moore as another daughter.

Surviving him are his wife Janice, their children and sister, Gwendolyn, along with several nieces and nephews. Gaylord was an amazing proud Grandpa or Papa to Lauren, Logan, Madyson, Elise, Aubrie and Nellie. Gaylord coached American Legion baseball to so many kids that he considered as his own. Gaylord and Janice always wanted to have enough kids to make their own baseball team.

Gaylord is proceeded in death by his parents, Niles and Mary; his sister, Donietta and grandson, Niles Edward Simerson.

A celebration of life picnic will occur on from 2 pm to 8 pm on June 1, 2019 at the Gee’s home on Juniper St. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guestbook and share your thoughts with the family.
