George William Bailey, 71, of Traverse City, died December 29, 2020. He was born on June 20, 1949 in Detroit the son of the late Roy Albert and Eleanor Therese (George) Bailey.

George graduated from St. Gabriel Richard Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the US Marines. After leaving the military he moved back to Detroit and met and then married his former wife, the mother of his children, Joann Bailey.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, watching Sci Fi and the theater. George was an avid reader and was passionate about history, especially regarding the Military. He visited many military battlefields and museums with his family. He was a talented baker, sharing his creations with those he loved.

He was a member of the Haven of Hope Church, Traverse City.

George is survived by his fiancée, Margaret Ann Small; children, Brandie (Andrew) Ashton, Sheree (Timothy) Nelson and William Bailey; grandchildren, Drake, Haley, Reann, Charlotte, Erika, Abby, Ben, Natalie and Emily; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Silas and siblings, Loraine (Pat) LeClaire, Geri Reposa, Harold (Jessie) Bailey, Roy Bailey and Ray Bailey.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the Traverse Area District Library. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:30 pm, Sunday, January 3, 2020 at the Haven of Hope, 7801 E.
