Life Story / Obituary
George Raymond Witkowski, 82, of Elmwood Twp., died Friday, April 24, 2026. He was born on May 29, 1943 on the family farm in Centerville Twp, Cedar, MI, the son of Thomas Edward and Catherine Isabelle (Skipski) Witkowski.
He graduated from Holy Rosary High School, located in Isadore, MI in 1961. After high school he moved to Detroit and worked at General Motors on the brake line for over 9 years. Returning to the Northern Michigan area, he worked for Ohio Plate Glass as a Glazier working with glass and mirrors for over 15 years. Seeking advancement he changed employers and worked for Sprague/Prutsman in Suttons Bay. For over 11 years he supervised the production of rear-view mirrors for large tractor semi-trucks. He concluded his working years in Sanitation with Sara Lee.
George loved the family farm in Cedar, where he enjoyed cutting firewood. He also loved anything outdoors — tending his lawn, garden, and even snow blowing in the winter. George also enjoyed spending time with his family. Always curious of how they were doing, attending school events, family get togethers, and always there to lend a helping hand with any repairs around the house.
George is survived by his children, Shari (Aaron) Ott and Michael (Tammy) Witkowski; significant other, Laura Young; grandchildren, Brooke Stanley, Justus Korson, Maya Carrazco, Haley (Brady) Nickerson, and Mira Witkowski; great-grandchildren, Delaney & Jase Nickerson, and Aspen Moquin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Catherine; brother, Thomas P. Witkowski and sisters, Estella White and Frances King.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherryland Humane Society.
An informal gathering and light food reception will be held 4pm to 6pm, Monday, May 4, 2026 at Life Story Funeral Home.
