Life Story / Obituary

Print

Glenn Allen Gravette went to be with Jesus on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 with his loving family surrounding him. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on June 27, 1946, to Finley and Virginia (Strangle) Gravette. Glenn joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation. He was a fire fighter and was stationed in Bermuda, then later at Kincheloe Air Force base in Sault Ste. Marie, where he met the love of his life, Diane Osborn. In fact her mom said, the minute she met Glenn that he was going to

marry her daughter. They were married Sept. 9, 1967. Together they had their children, Julie and Tadd.

Glenn was hired as a Traverse City fire fighter after his honorable discharge from the Air Force. During this time Glenn was a jack of all trades, he obtained an electrical license and could fix anything. He would go with the neighbor to the dump and ring back more than he took and would fix the stuff so it could be used. He was the head of the toy drive at the Traverse City Fire Department that continues to this day.

Glenn went to work in the oil field for Shell Oil and became a safety director due to all of his knowledge. He taught Red Cross classes for years, teaching much of the community first aid and CPR. He later went on to be the safety director for

Davis Electric, where he helped his son start out as a lineman. Glenn went into advantage engineering and ended his career as a pipe line inspector for DTE.

He went back to school and obtained his paramedic certification where he and his daughter, Julie were the only father/daughter team to work at North Flight.

Glenn's biggest legacy is his family. Glenn loved his family and wanted them near as much as possible. His children, grand-

children and great-grandchildren were his biggest joy. He worked hard to take care of his family sacrificing everything for them.

He is survived by his wife, Diane of 51 1/2 years; his children, Julie and Tadd (Patty); grandchildren, Alex (Audrey), Arielle (Jake), Allie, Cody, Mariah, Cam and Sam; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Mason, Athena, Evelyn and Natalie. He was a loving father to others and always the Good Samaritan, who stopped to help someone in need.

He was preceded in death his parents, Finley and Virginia; brothers, Steve and Jimmy; and father-in-law, Roy.

Glenn would want everyone to love big and be kind.

Donations at this time may be made to Diane Gravette, 4313 Shawn Drive, Traverse City, MI 49685. Money will go toward burial expenses. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Church of the Living God. The family will greet friends starting at 1 p.m.
