Gloria Ann Landis 68, formerly of Grand Blanc Michigan passed away at Grand Traverse Pavilions Extended Care on November 6, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Gloria had fought a courageous fight with Huntingdon's chorea for 10 years.

Gloria was born in Saginaw Michigan on July 16, 1951. She moved to Flint Michigan when she was 9 years old when Sheldon and Joan Landis adopted her. Gloria attended St. Agnes Catholic School and graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1970. During high school she worked as a nurses aid at McLaren Hospital in Flint. After graduation, Gloria was employed at AC Spark Plug for a short time but wanted to return to her first love of medical care. She attended Ross Medical Assistant School and graduated in 1985.

When Gloria's younger adopted sister MaryAnn who is mentally and physically handicapped was no longer able to live with her father, Gloria took on the role of full time caregiver for MaryAnn and continued in that capacity for over 27 years.

Gloria moved to Traverse City in 2016 from Union Court Assisted Living in St. Charles, Michigan to her forever home at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. She wanted to be near her sister MaryAnn. Gloria was able to take part in many outings at the Pavilions including many shopping trips, summer weekly concerts, baseball games and two summer sails on Grand Traverse Bay on the 110 foot schooner, the tall ship Manitou. She said it was like sailing with her dad growing up only on a much bigger boat!

Gloria enjoyed watching sports, rooting for the Detroit Pistons and Tigers. In fact in 2012 a highlight for her was getting an invitation from the Pistons to attend a game with a VIP pass and meet star player Jonas Jerebko, court side announcer Mason and several other Piston staff members. She was able to attend the game with her son Christopher, nephew Eric and brother Dave. She also spent many spring afternoons rooting for her brother Dave when he played baseball in high school.

Gloria had made her wishes known that if possible she wanted an anatomical gift made to University of Michigan Hospital so that the study of her disease would help others with their own fight with Huntington's.

Gloria is survived by her son Christopher Landis, sister MaryAnn Landis, brother Dave and sister in law Jeanne Landis, nephews Eric and Brad (Jacki) Landis. She was preceded in death by her parents Sheldon and Joan Landis. Burial will be in Rose Center Cemetery in Holly Michigan.

While making Gloria's retirement the best it could be, the Landis family wishes to offer heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staffs at Union Court Assisted Living, Grand Traverse Pavilions Extended Care and Hospice of Michigan for all their compassion and care offered during Gloria's time with each of these organizations
