Life Story / Obituary

Print

Gwendolyn Ann (Gwen) Gehrcke passed through the gates of Heaven May 7 from her home in Williamsburg with her family at her side and her favorite song “Amazing Grace” playing softly.

Gwen was born March 15, 1949 to Durwin E. and Phyllis J. (Sieffert)Mackey in Kingsley. She attended Kingsley schools, graduating in 1967 and then the Business School at Ferris State University.

Gwen's professional career focused on government management as the Supervisor for Clearwater Township and most recently as Kalkaska County Treasurer, retiring in 2012 after 22 plus years of service to the community.

Gwen was an avid sports fan, especially for her Detroit Tigers and Pistons. One of her favorite trips was to see the Tigers from front row seats with her sister, Marsha, as well as a trip to Houston, TX with Marsha to visit her Great Niece, Jada Cadorette and Great Great Nephew Noah. Last summer she was the instigator of 1st Annual “All Girl Cousins Party” where cousins from near and far got together to retell old stories, laugh and love. She will be celebrated at this year's Cousin Party later this summer.

Gwen was the mother of Melissa Jo Leas of Kalkaska and Adam J. Gehrcke of Rapid City.

She is survived by her children, parents, sister and Brother-in-Law, Marsha & Bob Wasielewski, Beloved Nephew Christopher D. S. Mackey, numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins and her great companion dog “Sammy.”

Please join the family in a celebration of Gwen's life Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. Visitation with the family will be from 2 – 3 PM, the service at 3:00 PM with an early dinner to be served at the church following the service.

The family asks that memorial donations be directed to St. Jude's Children Hospital – Gwen's favorite charity or Kalkaska Church of Christ. Please visit Gwen's webpage at www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book and share a message with her family. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
