Harriet Mary Courtade was a gentle soul, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sisters and friend. She left this world surrounded by family and love on December 1, 2021.

She was born to Alfred and Martha Lamie on March 3, 1930 in Leelanau County but grew up in Traverse City where she lived most of her life. She met Don Courtade, the love of her life at the roller rink and married him at St. Francis Church on August 19, 1948. They were together for 66 years before he passed in 2014.

She is survived by her, brother, Sam Lamie, 6 children, Jane (Lon) Kologe, Jeff Courtade, JoAnn (Bill) Steinebach, Don Jr. (Lana) Courtade, Matt (Sue Courtade), and John (JoAnne) Courtade. She has 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren who she fondly called all “George.”

In addition to her husband, Don, she was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Martha, brother, James Lamie, and sisters, Geraldine Belanger, Jean Eva Warren and baby, Margaret Lamie, and grandson Mike Pendock.

Harriet loved spending time with her family and friends, Sunday Dinners at moms were a given. Neighborhood children as well as her own would gather around her kitchen table for her homemade cooks and cakes. She was a Cub Scout Leader and 4H Leader, a volunteer at Red 9 Fire Department, and was often found serving at a pancake breakfast or church bazaar.

She has a zest for the outdoors, snowmobiling and camping and Sunday drives. She loved the color blue, a skilled artist who filled her home with seasonal décor she had hand painted with love. There was always a jigsaw puzzle to be fixed on a card table in the corner. Every spring you could find her tending her garden where she raised the sought after raspberries, rhubarb, sweet corn, and cucumber. Her fragrant rose bloomed every year.

A Memorial mass will be held 11 am, Monday, December 6, 2021 at St. Francis Catholic Church. A rosary will start at 10:40 am. The family will greet friends starting at 10 am. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Francis Church or Salvation Army.

Burial will be in the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens with her husband Don Courtade.
