Life Story / Obituary

Print

James Willard “Bud” McGuinness, 75 of Traverse City, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023 with family by his side. He was born November 2, 1947, in Ironton, Ohio to Edward and Nola (Brown) McGuinness.

Bud enlisted in the United States Navy. He achieved many accomplishments and was a highly decorated US Navy Seal. After the Navy, Bud worked for the United States Postal Service and retired as a Postmaster. He lived in Ohio, Kentucky, Washington, South Carolina, and Michigan.

He loved his family. He was an avid golfer, bowler and enjoyed woodworking. Bud was definitely one of a kind with a great sense of humor. He appreciated good food, a good cigar, a good scotch and driving across the country he proudly served.

Bud is survived by his son, Alexander James “AJ, Alex” McGuinness; his daughter, Shana (Don) Larsen; his sister, Sharon (McGuinness) Darga; and his brothers, Steve Neighbors and David “Dave” (Judy) Neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edward James and Nola (Brown) McGuinness.

An informal gathering will be held from 12 noon to 2pm, Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Greilickville Harbor Park, Pavilion at the Park just south of Elmwood Township Marina. A Celebration of Life and Military Honors will start at 1:30 pm.
