James Earl Lonsberry went to be with his bride, Nola Marie, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Munson Hospice House, Traverse City, with his daughters by his side. James was in Traverse City for a family wedding when he experienced a stroke on August 1, 2025. James was born January 5, 1943, Lansing, Michigan and was the son of Earl R. Lonsberry and Helen Wattrick Lonsberry. He graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1962 and married Nola in 1963. James achieved his Journeyman’s card and worked as a Millwright for Oldsmobile/General Motors for over 40 years. James loved to be on the water, hunting with his Lonsberry family, woodworking, painting, golfing with friends, and being with others sharing a good meal. He was an avid storyteller and liked to laugh with his grandchildren and rile up his daughters with his daily exploits. He loved his 16 year old cat, Pretty Boy, who showed up on his doorstep shortly after he lost his wife and became his comfort. James loved his family unconditionally and became a father figure to many, including Kris Jolley and Don Smith. He loved his brother’s children as his own and enjoyed spending time with them. James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Edward L. Lonsberry, and his wife of 40 years, Nola Marie Lonsberry. James is survived and missed by his daughters, Melissa Marie Lonsberry; Amy Lynn Jolley (Kris); grandchildren Nolan James and Nicole Lynn Jolley; Sister Katherine Lonsberry Turner (Jay), friend Mary Koehler, his cat Pretty Boy and many nieces and nephews. James was humble, kind and a good man. He was the best daddy and grandfather. We would like to especially thank the staff of Munson Healthcare ER, ICU, Pallative Care, Hospice House and also the staff of the Munsion Manor for their excellent care and support. They went above and beyond for James and his daughters.

A memorial dinner/celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Joseph E. Drolett Community Center, 7550 West Willow Highway, Lansing, MI 48917.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory can be made to Munson Healthcare Hospice House, 450 Brook St., Traverse City, MI 49684 (https://www.munsonhealthcare.org/munson-healthcare-foundations/ways-to-give/make-a-gift) or any hospice house providing comfort and support to individuals and their families.
