James Michael Lucius graduated to meet with his Lord and Savior on October 15, 2023. He passed away in Traverse City, MI, where he lived.

He was brought into this world by Harold and Wanda Lucius in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from New Lothrop High School in 1971, and went on to study Mortuary Science at Wayne State University. He got his certificate in 1976. He was a Funeral Director in the Sault Ste. Marie, Kalamazoo, and Traverse City areas. He was also a financial advisor for many years.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a proud grandparent. He loved to help people out in any way that he could. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease the people around him. He never needed a dog because he was always surrounded by them. He liked to hunt rocks, landscape, playing with his grandkids, enjoy his walks with and without other people's dogs, meeting people, cooking; where he provided many meals for church events and fixing things. He was an active church member in the churches he belonged to throughout the various places he lived. He served in many areas of the church, however, he was continually told how much people enjoyed learning the Bible in the Sunday School class he taught.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kaye (Wise) Lucius; 4 children, Kyle Lucius (Elizabeth), Trenton Lucius (Autumn), Kami (Brian) Buckmaster, and Toby Lucius; and nine grandchildren, Alexis Youngman, Nolan Lucius, Alice Lucius, Ethan Lucius, Calvin Lucius, Aaron Lucius, Max Lucius, Darin Buckmaster, and Kelci Buckmaster. Other surviving relatives include his sister, Sharon Faber and his brother, Samuel (Carol) Lucius and many nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to Kidneycompanions.org to increase access to Kidney transplants in Northern Michigan and help those who need rides for treatment.

A Celebration of life will be held 12 noon, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Bible Baptist Church, Traverse City. The visitation will start at 11 am.
