James Thomas Reardon, age 73, of Hawkins, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2025. James was born on October 20th, 1951, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Clare (Schlick) and Joseph Reardon.

He is survived by his children Meagan (Matthew), Caitlin, and Garrison (Elizabeth); grandchildren Wyatt, Lilyth, and Finnegan; his former wife, mother of his children, and long-time friend, Pamela; and siblings Mary, Daniel, Margaret (Donna), and Susan (Robert). He was preceded in death by his mother Clare; brothers Michael and Patrick; former wife Mary Ann, and many Hawkins Elders.

James had a varied and colorful career, spanning respiratory therapy, cardiac imaging sales, and real estate redevelopment. Yet his true vocation was living life with purpose, generosity, and joy. His personal motto — “Raise the young, have some fun, and be kind” — was more than a phrase; it was how he showed up for those around him.

While not without character flaws, James was a devoted and engaged father, always encouraging his children to explore the world and “Know what’s going on in the streets!”. James was a lifelong learner with a love of language and a gift for making others feel welcome.

He lived on his beloved farm in Hawkins for nearly 50 years, turning it into a gathering place for friends, family, and neighbors. From horse pull parties to apple pressings, James cultivated both the land and the joy shared on it. He planted wildflowers along the road, tended his garden, installed solar panels, and raised his children with a love for sustainability, curiosity, and play.

His creativity showed in everything he touched — digging a pond, building a rope swing, making candles, sewing comforters, making apple wine, and orchestrating memorable (and often delightfully eccentric) gatherings like Thanksgiving dinners held in the woods.

James also found joy in travel, especially in Cozumel, which became his home away from home for many years.

He will be remembered for his kindness, charisma, and deeply authentic spirit — a man who stopped to help strangers, loved fiercely, and never hesitated to dance or dive into a cold lake.

A celebration of James’s life will be held at his farm in Hawkins, Michigan, in early fall 2025. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
